“The passion to see beyond what is admirable to the eye

The love that is felt deep within one's soul

The mystery captured through light and form

With honesty, humility and grace...

Only then can you tell your heart to be strong enough to love true art."

POEM by Guro Dan Inosanto

We are all climbing different paths through the mountain of life,

and we have all experienced much hardship and strife.

There are many paths through the mountain of life,

and some climbs can be felt like the point of a knife.

Some paths are short and others are long,

who can say which path is right or wrong?

The beauty of truth is that each path has its own song,

and if you listen closely you will find where you belong.

So climb your own path true and strong,

but respect all other truths for your way for them could be wrong.

Wreaths Across America, Fort Snelling National Cemetery, December 15, 2012

Everything here, but the soul of man, is a passing shadow. The only enduring substance is within.

Pomegranates

Ever wonder how to eat a pomegranate?

When you open one, all the seeds are so difficult to get out of the fruit membrane and eating it becomes a mess.

The trick is to soak the fruit in a bowl of cold water, and gently squeeze the seeds apart from the membranes.

The seeds will come off easily, sinking to the bottom of the bowl, while the rest of the fruit floats off.

Drain the water and remaining membranes.

Voila!  Seeds to devour without the mess.  Eat it as is, with cereal or salad, blend and strain for juice... healthy fruit for the family!

The coolest blog ever!

"Everyone has a heavy load to carry in life. Don’t be someone who goes around adding to a person’s real problems by pointing out their inconsequential ones. There is a place for honesty among friends." http://www.humansofnewyork.com/

When I'm Sad

I keep my thoughts inside
Not everyone has to know
The secrets that I just hold
emotions I can't let go.

My heart may skip a beat
a whimper or a sigh
Does anyone want to listen
or let the time go by?

Silence sets me free
As you kiss the pain away
One moment at a time
to make it through the day.

BURST OF FAIRY BLOOMS

one day i saw a flower
she whispered to my ear
"the fairies are quite pretty
she happens to be near."

i thought i saw one flying
next to my flower friend
but all i saw abuzzing
was nothing to get bent.

just butterflies pollinating
and buzzing about was a bee
oh, where could be a fairy
that i can truly see?

again the flower whispered
"the fairies are quite near"
and suddenly i just realized
she was talking about me!

CARAMELIZED BUTTERNUT SQUASH

Here I am again at the kitchen with a mini photo documentary.

Let me take you back first on how I prepared the squash for this yummy dish.

... I rinsed the veggie with cold water ...

... I sliced it down into halves ...

... removed the seeds...

... and peeled off the skin ...

...now it's all ready to dice into cubes ...

... my ingredients are 4 -6 spoons melted butter, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, and 1/2 cup brown sugar ...

... I love using parchment paper! Nothing sticks to the pan that way ...

... I placed it in the oven at 400 degrees for 50 minutes ...

... and voila! I bet adding cinnamon would also make it awesome. but that will be next time :)
